Esther Chu, MA, RCC, CCC
I'm Esther Chu (she/her/hers), I am a Filipino and Chinese Clinical Counsellor from Surrey, BC, now practicing in Vancouver and Langley. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors as well as a Canadian Certified Counsellor through Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
My story is one that one that seeks exploration of the "grey" areas of life and challenging issues that have been "swept under the rug" for far too long. This along with my professional training has shaped my approach to field which is guided by the understanding that we as people are a mosaic of the experiences that we received and those we were denied. My expertise and passion lies in diving deep into areas encompassing, but not limited to, intergenerational and interpersonal trauma, identity exploration and development, multicultural stress, depression (including post-partum depression), grief, and ADHD. I am an advocate for the accessibility of mental healthcare services and am passionate about intersectionality-affirming care.

My work strongly focuses on adapting existing therapeutic models to embrace one's own intersectionality on a deeper level. Many existing therapeutic modalities were researched and created by people of social majority groups, but with empathy, curiousity, patience, creativity, and kindness, these modalities are able to fit the lens of those outside of the majority. This understanding serves as a foundation in how I conceptualize and practice with clients.
